1:Modeling and Analysis of Interactive Wild and Sterile Mosquitoes with Periodic and impulsive releases
In this talk, we first give a brief review of the mathematical modeling of interactive homogeneous wild and sterile mosquito populations. Based on the innovative idea and methods introduced by Professor Jianshe Yu in 2018, we formulate new models where only those sexually active sterile mosquitoes are included for the interactive dynamics. The mathematical description of the sterile mosquitoes becomes a nonnegative function given in advance instead of an independent variable, the dimension of the model system is reduced, and the analysis is mathematically more attractable. We then study the model dynamics for the case where the releases of sterile mosquitoes are periodic and impulsive. In particular, with the waiting period between two consecutive releases greater than the sexual lifespan of the sterile mosquitoes, we establish thresholds and obtain sufficient and necessary conditions for the existence and uniqueness of a globally asymptotically stable periodic solution. We also present numerical examples to demonstrate the results. This talk is based on the joint work with Professor Jianshe Yu.

2:Multitype bistability and long transients in a delayed spruce budworm population model
In this talk, I will talk about a budworm model. By carefully dealing with the major difficulty caused jointly by the time delay and the nonlinearity, we give a rather complete stability analysis for the model, including global asymptotic stability, bistability, semi-stability and Hopf bifurcation. Moreover, we show that the time delay can induce interesting dynamics including multitype bistability and long transients.

3:Predator-prey models for pest management
Controlling insects and minimizing losses resulting from insect infestations are very important issues in agricultural entomology. Predator-prey models are used by many researchers to study the e_ect of pest control. In this talk, I introduce three of our works in this aspect. The _rst work is on biological control, where the release of natural enemies depends on the abundance of pest. The other two are about integrated pest management. In the _rst model, we consider the process of periodically releasing natural enemies and spraying pesticides at di_erent _xed times. In the latter one, two threshold values are involved. One is for the pest. If the pest population is below this threshold value then no action is taken. When the pest population exceeds this threshold value, if the natural enemy population is below its threshold value then natural enemies are released and pesticide is applied otherwise only pesticide is applied.
